The Rocky Mount Rotary Club recently presented Edgecombe Community College with $10,000 to support student scholarships.

The presentation took place during a Rotary event, during which Rotary leaders awarded $30,000 in scholarship funds to support local students attending Edgecombe Community College, Nash Community College, and North Carolina Wesleyan College.

The Rocky Mount Rotary Club continued its support of local higher education even though Tackle the Tar, the annual 5k obstacle course race that generates funds to support local college students, has not been held for the past two years due to the pandemic.

“Thank you for this tremendous contribution to our college,” ECC President Dr. Greg McLeod said in accepting the gift. “Your extraordinary generosity reflects your commitment to our community and higher education, and we are most grateful.”

Over the past six years, the Rocky Mount Rotary Club has donated $315,000 to local colleges for scholarships.

Next year’s Tackle the Tar is set for May 13-14, 2022. To learn more, go to tacklethetar.com.
