New York Theatre Ballet to Perform March 22

New York Theatre Ballet performs at Edgecombe Community College on March 22.

New York Theatre Ballet will make its sixth appearance in Tarboro on Thursday, March 22, bringing a program of mixed repertoire.

NYTB is the final show of six shows in the thirteenth season of the Edgecombe Performance Series.

NYTB has performed in the series annually for the past five years. Works this year include Jerome Robbins’ Septet; David Parker’s Two Timing featuring Tarboro’s own Dirk Lumbard; Petroushskates by William Whitener; The Flames of Paris pas de deux; Frederick Ashton’s La Chatte; and Antony Tudor’s Dark Elegies.

Dirk Lumbard, an instructor at East Carolina University and a veteran of seven Broadway shows, is a master tap dancer and has performed leading roles at Barton, Imperial Center, NCT, and Edna Boykin. He will perform in Two Timing, a piece performed to Steve Riech’s Clapping Music, with NYTB dancer Elena Zahlmann. The piece features Lumbard performing very elaborate clapping music with the ballerina tapping on pointe.

Sponsored by the Furman Mathewson Trust of Edgecombe County Memorial Library, the performance is free, but reserved seating tickets are required.

Tickets for all Edgecombe Performance Series events are available at etix and through the ECC Box Office on the Tarboro campus. For more information, please call Cultural Arts Director Eric Greene at (252) 823-5166, ext. 187.
