Healthcare Graduates Honored at ECC

Thompson completed more than 575 hours of Health Occupations course work and plans to enter the college’s Nursing program in the fall. Health Occupations graduates at Edgecombe Community College were honored by college staff, family, and friends during a Health Occupations Recognition Ceremony held January 28.

Over the last year, 125 students completed certificate programs in Nurse Assistant I and II, Medication Aide, and Phlebotomy. Some students completed more than one program and earned multiple credentials.

Fifteen of these students completed Personal and Home Care Aide State Training (PHCAST) through a partnership uniting the college, Workforce Development, and OIC.

PHCAST is designed for unemployed or under-employed adults and consists of three segments: Introduction to Direct Care, Direct Care Basics, and Nurse Assistant I. Students who complete these segments are eligible to complete a fourth phase of their choice: Nurse Assistant II, Medication Aide, or Phlebotomy, or they can apply to a degree or diploma program at the college.
