ECC Receives GEER Funding to Support Students
Edgecombe Community College has received nearly $137,000 to help students cover the costs of short-term workforce training programs.
The support is part of $95.6 million in new funding for North Carolina K-12 and postsecondary students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The funding is North Carolina’s share of the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund, a part of the federal CARES Act.
ECC is receiving $136,906 in GEER monies. The funds will provide financial assistance to students enrolled in short-term workforce training programs leading to a state or industry-recognized credential in a high-demand field.
“Many of our students and their families continue to face financial hardships due to the pandemic,” says ECC President Dr. Greg McLeod. “We are grateful for this support which will benefit students enrolled in short-term training programs that lead to jobs.”
In order to be eligible, students must be residents of North Carolina and must be enrolled in one of the following programs at ECC:
- Advanced Manufacturing Academy
- BLET
- Construction Academy
- EMT Basic
- EMT Advanced
- HVAC
- Mammography
- Nurse Aide I
- Nurse Aide II
- Paramedic
- Phlebotomy
- Solar Construction Academy
- Welding
Students can fill out an application for GEER funding when they apply to one of these programs. Qualifying students are eligible to receive up to $750 per program. Funding is for tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, childcare, and other components of the total cost of attendance.
