“Students say she is a supportive role model and motivates them to strive for excellence,” said Karen Andrus, executive director of the ECC Foundation, in making the presentation. “She is fiercely passionate about her students and their success. She keeps up with each student in her department with phone calls, emails, and birthday cards.”

Dr. Ellis-Kiser, who has served as program chair of Business Administration/Accounting since 2011, established the online Business Administration degree and Accounting degree programs. She also developed the Hunting and Shooting Sports Management concentration as well as a new Logistics Management certificate program.

An ECC faculty member since 1996, she holds a bachelor’s degree from North Carolina State University and M.B.A. and Ed.D. degrees from East Carolina University.

Debra Glover, administrative assistant II-instruction, received the 2016 Staff Award.

“She is a master juggler of many tasks and responsibilities,” according to Andrus. “Her willingness to work long hours, go above and beyond, and pitch in whenever possible inspires us all.”

Her responsibilities include assisting the vice president of instruction and curriculum faculty, working in the ECC Box Office, and supporting facility management. She also manages the activities of the SkillsUSA student club, which participates in state and national competitions.

Glover, who joined the college in 2004, also has worked in the college’s Financial Aid and Foundation offices.

She holds an associate degree from Edgecombe Community College and has completed course work at Nash and Wilson community colleges.

The ECC Foundation honored Dr. Ellis-Kiser and Glover with a $250 check and a plaque.
