About the Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees of Edgecombe Community College is the local administrative board of the College.

The Board has such powers and duties as are provided in Chapter 115D of the North Carolina General Statutes and as are delegated to it by the State Board of Community Colleges. The powers and duties of the Board include the power to elect a President of the College, who shall serve at the pleasure of the Board.

The Board consists of thirteen members, including the president of the College’s Student Government Association, who is an ex officio nonvoting member of the Board.

Trustees serve four-year terms, except for the ex officio member.

At the Board’s first meeting held on or after July 1 of each year, the Board elects from its membership a Chair, who shall preside at all Board meetings, and a Vice Chair, who shall preside in the absence of the Chair. The trustees also elect a Secretary.

The Board has an Executive Committee and standing committees consisting of a Finance Committee, Buildings and Grounds Committee, and Personnel Committee. Committee members are appointed by the Board Chair.

The Board is required to meet at least six times per year and at such other times as may be necessary to conduct the business of the College.
