Workforce Development

New and Expanding Industry & Focused Industrial Training
Creating more and better paying jobs by promoting the expansion of existing industries and by attracting new industries to the state was a major consideration in the original establishment of the industrial education centers. The N.C. Community College System, working with the local college, will develop and fund legitimate training programs, tailor-made for each industry, to meet the immediate trained manpower needs when the plant, new or expanded, is ready to go into production. In the process of doing this, the college will help the plant management develop a long-range training program of its own to meet those replacement and retraining needs that industry should and can be prepared to do for itself. For more information on New and Expanding Industry, go to www.ncccs.cc.nc.us/Business_and_Industry/neit.htm.

ECC also offers special customized training classes for business and industry. Funded through a grant, the Focused Industrial Training program enables the college to offer small enrollment classes targeting very specific skills critical to a particular organization. Programs are directed toward workers who need to renew their skills and technical knowledge. For more information on Focused Industrial Training, go to www.ncccs.cc.nc.us/Business_and_Industry/fit.htm.

Small Business Center
Part of a statewide network, ECC's Small Business Center offers a multi-faceted approach to facilitating business development by providing prospective and current small business owners with a central point of contact for information, education, and assistance.

The SBC sponsors low- and no-cost seminars, workshops, and continuing education courses on a variety of topics that are of interest to entrepreneurs and their employees. Customized programs can be designed for business and industry upon request. Free one-on-one counseling is provided by appointment.

The SBC also coordinates the Rural Entrepreneurship Through Action Learning program, a how-to course on starting a business.
