ECU Symphony Orchestra to Perform Free Concert

Edgecombe Community College, in partnership with PNC Bank, hosts the East Carolina University Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, February 16.

The afternoon concert, which begins at 3 p.m., will be held in Keihin Auditorium on the Tarboro campus.

This concert marks the third appearance at ECC of the ECU Symphony Orchestra, which is composed of ECU students who are primarily music majors at the ECU School of Music in Greenville.

The orchestra enjoys a fine reputation as one of the highest quality ensembles of its kind in the region. The ensemble performs several times each year, playing a wide variety of literature chosen from the standard orchestral repertoire, contemporary works, music for smaller instrumentation or chamber orchestra, as well as works for full orchestra.

The ECU Symphony Orchestra is open to music majors and to musicians who choose to major in other disciplines.

ECU Symphony Orchestra Music Director and Conductor Jorge Richter is assistant professor of music at ECU. He holds a B.M. in violin performance from the Parana State School of Music and Fine Arts in Curitiba, Brazil, an M.M. in conducting from Andrews University, and a D.M.A in conducting from Michigan State University.

Dr. Richter has held similar positions at Truman State University, Oklahoma State University, and the University of Tennessee.

This concert is being funded by the Furman Mathewson Trust of Edgecombe County Memorial Library. Admission is free to the public, but tickets are required.

Tickets are available through the ECC Box Office on the Tarboro campus or at www.etix.com. For more information, please call ECC Cultural Arts Director Eric Greene at (252) 823-5166, ext. 187.
