Financial Aid

General Information
There are three principal kinds of financial aid available for students attending Edgecombe Community College:

  1. Scholarships or grants which are awarded outright to the student and which do not have to be repaid
  2. Loans, which a student must repay after leaving college
  3. Employment, which, in some instances, may be in work that is related to the student’s field of study.

To meet a student’s financial need, Edgecombe Community College makes aid available in a combination of loans, grants, and work. Awards for campus-based programs are made on the basis of demonstrated financial need as reflected by the institutional financial aid application and the Student Aid Report for the Pell Grant.

Need is defined as the difference between the cost to a student for attending the college and the resources available to him/her to meet such cost. When more than one student demonstrates exceptional financial need, it becomes necessary to rank students according to need and make awards on that basis. The Edgecombe Community College Financial Aid Office selects recipients for non-need based awards based upon academic standing and character.

For details about any of the college’s financial aid programs, students may contact the Financial Aid Office on either campus. The Financial Aid Officer reserves the right to review and cancel the financial award at any time because of changes in an individual’s financial or academic status.

Edgecombe Community College offers the following financial aid for prospective and presently enrolled students:

Federal Pell Grant Program
The Federal Pell Grant program awards grants directly to students with payment made through ECC. Federal Pell Grants do not have to be repaid. Pell Grants are the “foundation” of student aid.
