The Practical Nursing curriculum prepares individuals with the knowledge and skills to provide nursing care to children and adults. Students will participate in assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating nursing care.
Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation/long term care/home health facilities, clinics, and physicians’ offices.
The associate degree and practical nursing education programs at Edgecombe Community College are candidates for accreditation by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
Program of Study
* Practical Nursing Program applications are only available at one of the Nursing Information Sessions.
Students seeking information about the nursing program should begin by reviewing the Nursing Information Packet, paying special attention to deadlines. Readmission and transfer students should review the Nursing program section of the College Catalog. Students wishing to proceed with the application process should then complete the ECC College Application, attend the next available New Student Orientation, and attend a Nursing Information Session. If Information Sessions are not being held, or if you have additional information after reviewing the Nursing Information Packet, contact Ms. Kim Hampton, Nursing Admission Counselor. New students should schedule an appointment with Ms. Hampton to register for first semester classes. To register for classes in subsequent semesters, pre-nursing students should contact their nursing faculty advisor by email of phone two weeks before Early Registration to schedule an appointment.
