The ECC Foundation’s 21st Annual Golf Tournament raised about $22,000 for student scholarships.

The tournament was held September 21 at Maccripine Country Club in Macclesfield. Forty-six teams played in the four-person modified super ball tournament. The annual tournament is among the largest fundraisers for the college.

“The golf tournament is always a wonderful event,” says Karen Andrus, executive director of the ECC Foundation. “We had terrific weather this year; it was a picture-perfect day. The golfers had a great time, and our students are the beneficiaries. It’s a win-win event for everyone.”

Winner of the first flight was the Thomas-Edmondson Agency team, with team members Curtis Edmondson, Lee Edmondson, Charlie Harrell, and Lee Wilson. Winner of the second flight was team ABB, with team members Mike McDonald, Mike Howle, Rick Bayliss, and Junior Baker. Mike Matthews from the Water Department of Edgecombe County team won the raffle for a set of Callaway Fusion golf clubs valued at $1,200.

Corporate sponsors of the golf tournament were Keihin Carolina System Technology, who provided a Honda Civic SI as a hole-in-one prize, and Farris Motors, who provided a Dodge Ram Quad Cab as a hole-in-one prize. Consolidated Diesel was a platinum sponsor.

Gold sponsors included Barcalounger, who donated a chair; Bluegreen, who donated a Caribbean cruise and weekend for four at Myrtle Beach; EMBARQ, who provided golf towels for each team member; Mayo Knitting Mill, who contributed socks for all the players; MBM Corporation, who provided lunch; Sara Lee Bakery and McDonalds, who provided breakfast; Pizza Inn, who donated coupons for free pizza; and Sundrop Bottling Company and Harris Wholesale Distributors, who provided beverages for the day.

Scholarship sponsors were ABB, Bell South/Joe Tolson, CECO Building Systems, RBC Centura Bank, Roger G. Taylor & Associates, Superior Essex, Texas Steakhouse & Saloon, Heritage Bank, and the Thomas-Edmondson Agency.

“We wouldn’t be able to hold the tournament without the generous support of our corporate neighbors and friends,” Andrus adds. About 40 additional donors provided door prizes.

Serving on the 2006 ECC golf tournament committee were Tommy Anderson, Karen Andrus, Bobby Daughtridge, Mark Doughtie, Dr. Deborah Lamm, and Charlie Harrell.
