College Receives Construction Grant

Edgecombe Community College has received an $800,000 construction grant from the State Board of Community Colleges.

The grant will be used for a new 7,000-square-foot building on the Tarboro campus to house cosmetology. The structure will be built south of the AC&T Center, and it will face north.

The new building will include classroom and lab space for some 90 students.

Construction will begin within 60 days. Turn-Key Contractors in Rocky Mount is the builder; DKWA-Architects is the architect. Once the new building is completed, cosmetology’s current space in Building B will be utilized by the Edgecombe Early College High School.

The cosmetology program on the Rocky Mount campus was strengthened earlier this year with the completion of renovations to the cosmetology teaching area in April.

Cosmetology teaching areas on the Rocky Mount and Tarboro campuses recently received a very high score of 98 from the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts Examiners.
