A longtime employee has been named special assistant to the president for minority affairs at Edgecombe Community College. Feasta Reynolds, coordinator of Human Resources Development, was appointed to the advisory post by ECC President Dr. Deborah Lamm. An employee of the college for 23 years, Reynolds is African-American. In her new role, Reynolds will advise Dr. Lamm on minority issues, serve as a liaison between minority employees and college administration, support diversity training, and represent the college at community events. She will continue to coordinate the HRD program. Reynolds also will serve on the college’s Diversity Task Force, a group that last year revised ECC’s Diversity Plan. “I hope to continue the excellent work that was begun in 2005
with the creation of the task force,” Reynolds says. She cites
four goals that will direct her work as special assistant to the president
for minority affairs: Reynolds has served as HRD coordinator since 1989. HRD is a state-funded program administered by the N.C. Community College System. HRD focuses on the development of basic workplace skills by providing skill assessment services, employability skills training, and career development counseling to unemployed and underemployed adults. An HRD program is in place in all 58 community colleges. “Feasta brings experience, vision, and energy to the post,” says Dr. Lamm. “Also, because of her long tenure at the college, she well understands the issues that face our minority employees and students.” Reynolds received a B.S. degree from N.C. Central University and has completed additional course work in adult and community education at East Carolina University.
