Sharon Hartman of Zebulon received a trophy for her high score. One hundred and ninety students, representing 11 North Carolina radiography programs, participated in the exam.

The exam was given during the annual conference of the North Carolina Society of Radiologic Technologists in Research Triangle Park in mid-April. A number of ECC students attended the conference.

ECC offers a two-year degree in radiography as well as a CT/MRI diploma and CT and MRI certificates. About 30 students were enrolled in the 2005-2006 academic year.

Students study anatomy, biology, radiation safety, and physics, as well as learn to use computers to acquire and manipulate images. Their training includes classroom studies and lab practice at ECC as well as clinical rotations at clinical affiliates in Nash, Edgecombe, Halifax, and Wilson counties.

An ECC degree in radiography qualifies graduates to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists' (ARRT) national exam for certification and registration as medical radiographers.
