Edgecombe Community College students put their knowledge to the test during the college’s first Quiz Bowl on March 7. Sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Office of Student Services, the Quiz Bowl featured eight teams. The winning team was “Politically Correct,” led by team coach Mike Blankenship, social science instructor. His team had the overall highest score of 110 points. Two teams came in second place; they each had a score of 90 - the Early College “Snapping Turtles” and Respiratory Therapy. Four-person teams formed from various ECC curriculum programs and organizations tested their knowledge of trivia. Matches consisted of 20 questions taken from the following categories: current events, ECC history, social science, history, science, language/literature, and miscellaneous. All contestants were recognized for their participation, and the winning team earned a trophy. “The Quiz Bowl brought out the competitive side in all of us,
as well as a sense of pride in our departments and classes,” Blankenship
says. “The event also generated interaction between students and
instructors outside the classroom, which I believe is valuable.”
