Make Holiday Plans with ECC

It’s hard to believe, but Christmas is just three months away.

In the coming weeks, Edgecombe Community College is offering classes and entertainment to help you decorate, prepare great food, and put you in the holiday spirit.

A new class that has been very popular is DIY Wooden Pallets Furniture. Students reuse wooden pallets to create unique furniture and even holiday decorations, such as large stars to hang or place on a mantel. The college provides the pallets, and you provide the imagination.

The DIY Pallets class begins October 4 and ends November 15 and meets Tuesdays 6-9 p.m. on the Tarboro campus. Fee is $60.

Learn how to make holiday bows and wreaths for your home. Holiday Bow and Wreath Making begins October 6. The five-week class meets Thursdays 6-8 p.m. on the Rocky Mount campus. Fee is $35.

Popular cooking instructor Stephen Ribustello, executive chef and co-owner of On the Square restaurant and wine store in Tarboro, is teaching “Cooking for the Holidays” on Tuesday, November 15, 6-8 p.m., on the Tarboro campus. Fee is $25.

For college students who want to catch up or get ahead on course work over the holidays, ECC will offer holiday break classes that meet December 12 through January 13. All of the classes are online College Transfer courses.

Courses scheduled are Art Appreciation, Critical Thinking, Music Appreciation, Nutrition, Introduction to Ethics, Microeconomics, General Psychology, Introduction to Sociology, and Personal Health and Wellness.

The college held holiday break classes for the first time last year, and they were a big hit with university students on break.

A perennial favorite of the holiday season is the North Carolina Symphony Holiday Pops concert. This year’s performance is set for Thursday, December 8, at 7:30 p.m. in Keihin Auditorium on the Tarboro campus.

Enjoy seasonal and classical favorites, a sing-along, and a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus. Tickets are $20 general public and $10 students pre-K through college. Ticket sales begin Monday, October 10.
