ECC Receives Superior Rating for Fourth Consecutive Year

For the fourth year in a row, Edgecombe Community College has achieved the rating of "Superior Performing Institution" by the state.

The N.C. Community College System ranks the state's 58 community colleges based on their performance in 12 categories in the annual Critical Success Factors Report. To achieve a "Superior" rating, a college must meet or exceed standards in five of six performance categories. The six categories are:

  • Progress of basic skills students
  • Passing rates on licensure and certification exams
  • Goal completion for completers
  • Employment rate of graduates
  • Performance of college transfer students
  • Business and industry satisfaction with services provided

"This is our annual report card from the system office, and we are thrilled to have scored well for the fourth straight year," says ECC President Dr. Deborah Lamm. "The report indicates that we are doing a good job of meeting the needs of our students and employees."

One of the performance categories is the employment rate of graduates. The N.C. Community College System office looks at the proportion of students who complete degree, diploma, or certificate programs and are employed within a year following program completion. ECC's rate of employment is 100 percent.
Employer satisfaction is another area reviewed in the Critical Success Factors Report. Employer satisfaction with ECC-trained employees is very high at 100 percent.

Performance of college transfers is a third category. About 95 percent of ECC students who complete their two-year degree at ECC and transfer into North Carolina universities perform as well as students who enroll as first-time freshmen at the universities.
The annual Critical Success Factors Report documents each community college's performance. This year, 36 of the state's 58 community colleges achieved the "Superior" rating.

"Our community colleges provide such a tremendous service to their communities. I continue to marvel each year at how well our colleges continue to perform, especially considering the growing enrollment and funding challenges that exist for every campus," says Martin Lancaster, president of the N.C. Community College System.
