College Receives Superior Rating for Fifth Consecutive Year

For the fifth year in a row, Edgecombe Community College has achieved the rating of “Superior Performing Institution” by the state.

The N.C. Community College System ranks the state’s 58 community colleges based on their performance in 12 categories in the annual Critical Success Factors Report.

The standards focus on student success and satisfaction, graduation rates, and passing rates. ECC met standards in 11 of the 12 categories.

To achieve a “superior” rating, a college must meet or exceed standards in five of six performance categories. ECC met or exceeded standards in all six categories, which include progress of basic skills students, goal completion for completers, employment rate of graduates, and performance of college transfer students.

ECC has received a superior rating for five of the six years since the report program was established.

“We are thrilled to have scored well for the fifth straight year,” says ECC President Dr. Deborah Lamm. “These are comprehensive standards that cover the spectrum of what a community college should be doing. We are proud of this confirmation from the community college system office that we are doing a good job in meeting our mission.”

One of the performance categories is the proportion of graduates who report that their primary goal in attending the college has been met. ECC scored 99 percent in this category.

The proportion of graduates who are employed within a year is another category. ECC’s rate of employment is 100 percent.
Business and industry satisfaction with customized training also is reviewed. ECC scored 100 percent in business and industry satisfaction with customized training.

The annual Critical Success Factors Report documents each community college’s performance. This year, 38 of the state’s 58 community colleges achieved the “superior” rating.
