Global Education Fall Institute to Feature N.C. State Professor

 



N.C. State professor Dr. Heidi H. Hobbs will give a lecture
on globalization on September 14 at ECC.

 

Globalization expert Dr. Heidi H. Hobbs will deliver the keynote address at the Global Education Fall Institute at Edgecombe Community College on Thursday, September 14.

She will speak on “Responding to Globalization: Challenges and Opportunities,” beginning at 7 p.m. in Keihin Auditorium on the Tarboro campus. The lecture is free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

Dr. Hobbs is currently the director of the Master of International Studies Program and associate teaching professor in the School of Public and International Affairs at North Carolina State University. She has previously served on the faculties of Florida International University and Illinois State University. Her books include City Hall Goes Abroad: The Foreign Policy of Local Politics.

A reception will be held following Dr. Hobbs’ presentation, and the public is invited to meet her and enjoy punch and cookies.

Dr. Hobbs’ lecture is part of the Global Education Fall Institute, a two-day event at the college sponsored by the Global Education Committee to bring cultural awareness to the ECC and local communities.

The Institute will begin at 3:30 p.m. on September 14 with a workshop for ECC instructors and Edgecombe County Public School teachers. Roberta Cashwell, ECC adjunct instructor, owner of Rose Cottage Books in Tarboro, and world traveler, will lead the workshop titled “Integrating Global Issues Into Your Curriculum.” The workshop will be held in the AC&T Center on the Tarboro campus. On Friday, September 15, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., additional sessions will be held on globalization topics. All Friday sessions will be held in the AC&T Center, and room numbers will be provided that day. The sessions are open to the public.
