New Programs Await Students This Fall

The cosmetology teaching area on the Rocky Mount campus has been fully renovated.

Edgecombe Community College students will have five new curriculum programs to consider when they head to campus this week for final registration and the beginning of classes. Final registration is August 16 and 17, and classes begin August 18.

New curriculum programs are:
• Interventional Cardiac and Vascular Technology degree and diploma. This is a specialty for radiographers, and the program is offered through a collaborative agreement with Fayetteville Technical, Johnston, and Wake Technical community colleges.
• Medical Office Administration degree. This degree will prepare students to work in medical and dental offices, hospitals, and other health care related organizations.
• Associate in Science/Pre-engineering degree. The pre-engineering major prepares students to enter the engineering program at N.C. State University. The program is offered in collaboration with the Gateway Technology Center.
• Skin Esthetics Technology certificate. The esthetics curriculum focuses on skin care, and graduates will be qualified to do some skin treatments, such as microdermabrasion.
• Lateral Entry Teaching certificate. The lateral entry curriculum was developed for teachers who hold lateral entry license and leads to teacher certification.

Cosmetology students will benefit from an extensive renovation to the cosmetology teaching area on the Rocky Mount campus. Renovations began in September 2005 and were completed in April 2006. A new facility for cosmetology on the Tarboro campus is in the planning phase.

Students in a new continuing education class will build a Big Bear Chopper as a fundraiser for the ECC Foundation. Over the fall and spring semesters, students will build and customize a Venom ProStreet motorcycle. Raffle tickets will be sold, with proceeds benefiting the Foundation and its scholarship programs.

Regarding continuing education offerings, registration for GED and Adult High School classes will be he held August 18 on the Tarboro campus and August 21 on the Rocky Mount campus. These classes will begin August 22 on both campuses.
