Sixteen writers, from second graders to adults, were winners during the 2006 Edgecombe Community College Literary Contest. Winners were announced April 6. In its 12th year, the Literary Contest is sponsored by the ECC Library each spring. The Literary Contest is made possible through a mini-grant from the ECC Foundation. The Foundation awards mini-grants annually to staff and faculty for special projects or professional development. A total of 147 entries were submitted this year, up 60% from last year. Individuals competed in four divisions based on their grade level, with the categories of prose and poetry in each division. Twelve judges chose the winning entries. First-place winners took home a $100 savings bond, and second-place winners received a $50 savings bond. Winners were:
