Literary Contest Winners Named

 

Sixteen writers, from second graders to adults, were winners during the 2006 Edgecombe Community College Literary Contest. Winners were announced April 6.

      In its 12th year, the Literary Contest is sponsored by the ECC Library each spring. The Literary Contest is made possible through a mini-grant from the ECC Foundation. The Foundation awards mini-grants annually to staff and faculty for special projects or professional development.

      A total of 147 entries were submitted this year, up 60% from last year. Individuals competed in four divisions based on their grade level, with the categories of prose and poetry in each division.

      Twelve judges chose the winning entries. First-place winners took home a $100 savings bond, and second-place winners received a $50 savings bond.

Children's Poetry 5th-7th grades
  • 1st place: Jacob Clark
  • 2nd place: Mary Sue Taylor
Children's Prose 5th-7th grades
  • 1st place: Teresa Hilton
  • 2nd place: Rebekah Ann Bolton
Young Adult Poetry 8th-10th grades
  • 1st place: Menyel Brooks
  • 2nd place: Tierra A. Norwood
Young Adult Prose 8th-10th grades
  • 1st place: Ashley Elizabeth Lantman
  • 2nd place: Anna Satterthwaite
Open Contest Poetry 11th grade-adult
  • 1st place: Linda Anderson
  • 2nd place: Betsy Knode Newton
Open Contest Prose 11th grade-adult
  • 1st place: Patrick Kevin Holt
  • 2nd place: Sharon Hartman
