President Honored by ECU

 

Edgecombe Community College President Dr. Deborah Lamm was honored recently by East Carolina University as being among its top 100 alumnae. She is shown addressing students during a tea at ECU for students entering the education field.

 

Edgecombe Community College President Dr. Deborah Lamm was honored by East Carolina University recently as an Incredible ECU Woman.

She was among 100 ECU alummae who were honored by the university on October 17. Dr. Lamm holds an M.A.Ed. degree in English education from ECU.

“A Legacy of Leadership: 100 Incredible ECU Women” was sponsored by the Women’s Roundtable of ECU.

In addition to Dr. Lamm, other honorees included Emily Procter of “CSI: Miami”; Linda McMahon, CEO of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc.; Maureen O’Boyle of “A Current Affair”; Janice Faulkner, an N.C. state government official; Cassandra Bell, WITN-TV 7 news anchor; Kay Yow, N.C. State University women’s basketball coach; Rep. Edith Warren; and Rep. Marian McLawhorn.

Cokie Roberts, political commentator for ABC News, was the keynote speaker for the event, which was held at the Greenville Convention Center.

Several of the women who were honored, including Dr. Lamm, were asked to address students at afternoon teas.

Dr. Lamm began her post as president of ECC in 2004. A 27-year veteran of the North Carolina Community College System, she served as vice president of curriculum instruction at Southeastern Community College prior to joining ECC. Previously, she held administrative and academic positions at Lenoir Community College.

In addition to her M.A.Ed. from ECU, Dr. Lamm holds an Ed.D. degree in higher education administration from N.C. State University and a bachelor’s degree in English and psychology from UNC-Greensboro.
