Self-esteem was the focus of a recent youth training program. The Youth Training and Education Program (YTEP), part of the Workforce Development and Training Center, is holding a series of youth workshops on employment. The center operates through federal funds from the Workforce Investment Act, and it is affiliated with Edgecombe Community College. A workshop on self-esteem for school and the workplace was held on April 24. This was the fourth workshop in the series. YTEP students and Edgecombe Community College GED students received valuable information on self-esteem. Students learned how to recognize low self-esteem, how to combat problems that may contribute to low self-esteem, and how to recover from these problems. Students also received information on how to handle obstacles that may occur on the job and during a job search. WDTC job counselors Cindy Jordan, Carla Mc Williams, and Nadirah Pippen conducted exercises with students that addressed situations that might affect self-esteem. “The workshop really helped me”, says Brittany Clayton, a GED student and part-time college employee. For more information on YTEP, contact Randy Mitchell, youth job counselor,

focus on goal-setting.
