Target managers recently shared their expertise on customer service with students in a youth training program. The Youth Training and Education Program (YTEP), part of the Workforce Development and Training Center, is holding a series of workshops on employment. This was the second workshop that focused on customer service. The center operates through federal funds from the Workforce Investment Act, and it is affiliated with Edgecombe Community College. YTEP and Edgecombe Community College GED students attended the workshop on March 27, which featured two members of the management team from Target of Rocky Mount and Greenville. Tammie Silver, human resource clerical representative at the Rocky Mount store, and Leon Cooper, human resources manager at the Greenville store, offered valuable information on customer service and the importance of developing a healthy work ethic. The Target management team also led several customer service and work ethic scenarios. Edgecombe Community College GED student Milton Batts and ECC GED graduate George Bell served as facilitators. Both students participated in the customer service activity and later went through the actual interview process. They successfully completed the process and were offered positions with the Rocky Mount store. “I was excited about the activity. The tips offered really worked,” said Batts. Bell added, “My goal is to work at Target and enroll in ECC’s college transfer program this fall.” For more information on YTEP, please contact Randy Mitchell, youth job
counselor, at 977-3292, ext. 215. YTEP’s next workshop on April
17 will focus on self-esteem in the workplace.
