Drop/Withdraw (FAQ)

Are you sure you want to withdraw from your class?

Some of ECC's classes are not offered each semester, therefore, withdrawal from your course may delay your graduation.

Contact your advisor to determine if withdrawal from this course will delay your graduation.

Moreover, ECC has academic options, such as tutoring and learning lab staffing, that may make your withdrawal unnecessary. Please contact your instructor and your advisor before you make a decision to withdraw from your class.

What is the difference between a drop and a withdrawal?
A "drop" may only be initiated within the official drop/add period, usually the first week of class. An "official withdrawal" may be initiated by the student only, and must be done before the last day of official withdrawal period.  The Drop/Add period is the first 5 days of classes except during the summer semester when it is only 3 days.

Who may use this online withdrawal form?
Only students enrolled in a 100% Online course or a telecourse may use this online form to withdraw from a class. These courses have an L1 or L2 or TT or TR section code. This form may only be used during the colleges' official withdrawal dates.

Drop and Withdrawal Grades
A student who officially drops a course within the first 10% of the semester will receive a grade of WE (withdrew early) for that course.  A grade of WE does not affect your GPA.

A student who drops a course after the 10% date for the semester will receive a grade of WP or WF as determined by the instructor.  A grade of WP does not affect your GPA.  A grade of WF has the same affect as a grade of F on your GPA.

What happens when I submit this online withdrawal request?

Your submission of an online request to "withdraw" from a class does not mean that the "withdrawal" is completed. It simply means that you have requested a "withdrawal" from your class.

When the registrar receives your request to withdraw from your class, he or she will contact your instructor and will tell him or her of your decision. Your instructor is the person who will approve/disapprove your request and will determine your "last-date-of -contact." Your request will then be completed by the registrar.

How do I know if the withdrawal request has been processed?

You will receive an e-mail from the registrar confirming the completion of your request.
