Administrative Assistant II – Basic Skills
This position is located in Rocky Mount.

Available: September 1

Summary Description:  Assists the Basic Skills Coordinators in the planning, organization, implementation, and coordination of activities of the Basic Skills Department.  Provide secretarial support for Basic Skills Instructors of both Rocky Mount and Tarboro campuses.  Provide course information to prospective students, initiate the enrollment process, and generate and maintain student records and reports for both Rocky Mount and Tarboro locations.

Qualifications: Minimum– AAS degree in Computer Applications; related work experience demonstrating ability to work independently; and evidence of effective communication skills.
Preferred – AAS in Computer Applications; experience with NRS and reports required by NCCCS for Basic Skills programs; familiarity with Datatel Colleague; related work experience demonstrating ability to work independently, and evidence of effective communication skills.

Full-time Historic Preservation Instructor

Available: Immediately

Summary Description:  This is a recurring 9-month position with the possibility of employment during the summer semester if the need exists.  This person will teach courses in the Historic Preservation Technology curriculum and the Historic Preservation Trades program in Continuing Education through classroom lecture and hands-on instruction in a workshop setting.  Duties include periodic week-end teaching responsibilites.

Qualifications: Minimum – BA in Historical Preservation; familiarity with Secretary of Interior Standards; 2+ years in hands-on construction in both carpentry and masonry trades; familiarity with a variety of architectural styles including Southern; and proven ability through prior work experience to teach effectively in both lecture and hands-on formats.
Preferred – MA or advanced training in Historic Preservation plus minimum qualifications stated above.

Summary Description:  Assists in the development, implementation, marketing, promotion, supervision, and evaluation of various occupational extension classes at the college, Fountain Correctional Center for Women, community-based sites, and other on and off campus sites; assists in the management and promotion of continuing education on-line courses and re-certification courses for professionals; helps to coordinate various community services programs including those that are self-supporting; helps to promote and strengthen community partnerships; serves as the college’s liaison between the college and FCCW.  Reports to Director of Special Programs.

Part-time Basic Skills Instructors – Rocky Mount and Tarboro

Available: Immediately

Description:  Teach basic academic skills to adults on both Tarboro and Rocky Mount campuses as well as off-sites during the day.  Provide basic skills instruction to non-reading students as well as those studying for the GED. Must have knowledge of testing procedures, the ability to prepare and maintain detailed records on students; be computer literate and experienced in working with a multi-level student population. Position may require some evening teaching hours Monday through Friday.

Qualifications Minimum-Bachelor’s degree and proven, thorough knowledge of teaching adult learners; backgrounds in English and Math are highly desired.     Preferred – Bachelor’s degree in Education plus all of the minimum qualifications listed above.

Temporary Full-time Job Counselor – Workforce Development Training Center
To assist WIA participants in the Wilson area; this is a Temporary Full-time position with employment guaranteed only through June 30, 2011.

Summary Description:  The person in this position is responsible for the development, implementation, operation, follow up, and evaluation of education and training programs aimed at assisting WIA participants (dislocated workers) in obtaining full time, unsubsidized employment upon completing their training.  Provides outreach, recruitment, assessment orientation, career counseling, and assignment to training; works with the local JobLink and partnering agencies to identify areas for training such as core skills and employability, as well as oversight of training, invoicing for training, job referrals, and follow up with employers and participants.  May also assist in offering basic core and employability skills and/or customized training through the community college system.

Qualifications: Minimum:  Bachelor’s degree in Education or related Human Service field; effective interpersonal and communication skills demonstrated through work history; and strong computer skills.
Preferred:  Master’s degree and all minimum qualifications.
