Edgecombe Community College’s continuing education certificate program in Historic Preservation Trades began in Fall 2008. Six continuing education courses are required to complete the program. These courses meet on weekends for the convenience of working professionals. Each course meets for two weekends on Saturdays and Sundays. The classes are held at historic sites in Edgecombe County and on the Tarboro campus of Edgecombe Community College. A certificate in Historic Preservation Trades is earned after completion of the six continuing education courses. Seven Historic Preservation Trades classes are being offered in Fall 2009:
Also, interested individuals can get a taste of historic preservation at the Historic Preservation Trades School on Saturday, September 26. The daylong event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be held at Oak Grove Farm and St. Anne’s Chapel at Oak Grove near Tarboro. Preservation specialists will demonstrate their skills in timber framing, ironworks, paint finishes, stained glass, and tombstone repair, among other trades.
