Distance Learning

Distance Learning at Edgecombe Community College includes those classes that an individual can take anytime and anywhere in which classroom attendance is not required.

Curriculum
The online Curriculum classes compare to traditional classroom courses:

  • earn the same credit.
  • have the same quality and standards.
  • are fully accredited.
  • have the same course objectives.

Student support services (such as the library, student services, and financial aid) are available without being on campus.

The classes are best suited for mature, self-motivated students who have good study skills and do not need to be reminded to study and complete their assignments.

Continuing Education
Ed2Go online courses are offered through Continuing Education. These instructor-facilitated online courses are informative, fun, convenient, and highly interactive.

Ed2Go courses are project-oriented and include lessons, quizzes, hands-on assignments, discussion areas (chat rooms), supplementary links, and more. All courses run for six weeks (with a two-week grace period at the end). Two lessons are downloaded each week.

These courses:

  • can be completed from your home or office, day or night.
  • start every month.
  • are 24 contact hours.
  • generate 2.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).
  • require Internet access, e-mail, and a web browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator.

Unless noted, tuition per course is $55. For seniors age 65 or older, Ed2Go courses are free. Teachers may get approval for the courses for teacher renewal credits.

At the end of the course, you will receive an official letter of completion from Ed2Go and an official certificate issued by ECC’s Division of Continuing Education.

Global Education

Global Education Action Plan

In January 2007, the Diversity Committee, Hispanic-Latino Committee, and the Global Education Committee were combined to form the Diversity and Global Connections Committee. This committee is co-chaired by Deana Guido and Johanna Owens. The committee can be reached at connections@edgecombe.edu or (252) 823-5166, ext. 244 (Deana Guido), or (252) 823-5166, ext. 178 (Johanna Owens).

It is time once again for ECC's Global Scavenger Hunt! This year, the hunt will cover 9 weeks, ending the week before Spring Break.

Congratulations to Betty Collings and Jean Battle, week 7 winners drawn from all who submitted the correct answer to week 7's Global Scavenger Hunt question: Mount Everest is located at latitude 27 degrees, 59' N and longitude 86 degrees, 56' E.

Since this Friday, March 21, is a holiday and next week is our Spring Break, answers to this week's question must be submitted by midnight on Wednesday, March 19. I will announce the winners to this week's question on Thursday morning (3/20) so that they can pick up their gift cards before they leave campus that day. Submit your answers to connections@edgecombe.edu or on paper at either campus library.

Week 8 question: In which ocean is Easter Island located?
