Edgecombe Community College will partner with health care organizations/agencies (long-term care, assisted living) to offer the Geriatric Aide Training class for Nurse Aide I's (NAI). Geriatric Aide Training is an additional certification for the NAI. Aides who satisfactorily complete this course are eligible to be listed on the Department of Health Services Regulation (DHSR) registry. This course can be developed in partnership with agencies as needed.
Geriatric Aide training provides advanced training for the Nurse Aide I. The course focuses on geriatric care with an emphasis on person-centered care concepts, hydration, nutrition, mental health, dementia, behavioral challenges, pain management, palliative care, and stress management.
Registration for Geriatric Aide is by completed application process. Applicants must be 18 years of age. At least eight students are needed to hold the class.
A Career Readiness Certificateis required prior to application. Applications will be reviewed for accuracy and completion, and the student will be registered upon completion of course requirements and payment.
The fee for Geriatric Aide training is $188.50 (subject to change). This includes tuition and required malpractice insurance. This does not include books, uniforms, criminal background checks, or drug screen expenses, if required. Background checks, drug screens, and uniforms will be determined by the facility that partners with the college for this experience.

Requirements for the course include:
- Career Readiness Certificate (CRC)
- Completed and signed application
- Proof of Nurse Aide I Registry
- Proof of completion of an approved nurse aide training program
- Negative PPD (must remain current through duration of clinical)
