The Travel Abroad Program of Edgecombe Community College began in 2007. The program is open to ECC students, faculty, and staff, as well as members of the community. Scholarships are available on a per trip basis.
The College’s first excursion was an eight-day tour of Ireland in October 2007. Travelers visited Dublin, Ennis, Ring of Kerry, Killarney, and Waterford.
In October 2008, the Travel Abroad Program headed to France, and participants toured Paris, Normandy, Brittany, and Chateaux country.
Twenty-three participated in the College’s third trip, a nine-day tour of Italy in March 2011, making it the largest group since the program began. The trip began and ended in Rome, with visits to Pisa and the Tuscany region.
In March 2012, travelers headed to Spain for a ten-day tour that featured stops in Madrid, Toledo, Granada, Costa del Sol, and Seville.
From April 12 to April 21, 2013, the ECC group toured Great Britain. The itinerary included Stonehenge, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon, Edinburgh, and Cambridge.
The 2014 trip was a nine-day Baltic Capitals Cruise from May 27 through June 6. Stops included Copenhagen, Denmark; Berlin, Germany; Tallin, Estonia; St. Petersburg, Russia; Helsinki, Finland; and Stockholm, Sweden.
Twenty-five area residents and ECC employees and students traveled to Scotland in May 2015. Travelers toured historic and cultural landmarks, including Glasgow, Loch Lomond, Glenfinnan, Mallaig-Armadale, Isle of Skye, Highlands, St. Andrews, and Edinburgh.
In May 2016, ECC travelers headed to Switzerland and toured Zurich, Lake Como, Swiss-Italian Lake District, Zermatt, Berne, and Lecerne.
From May 23 to June 3, 2017, the ECC group toured New England and Eastern Canada. In April 2018, ECC travelers remained stateside and visited New York City for a long weekend getaway.
