Admission Policy and Procedures
Radiography

Each step must be completed before proceeding to the next step. Admission into health science programs is competitive and is based on a points-based ranking system. The number of students accepted into health science programs is determined by space available and may therefore vary each term.

Step I Application Process (Must be completed by March 1)

  1. Applicants must submit a Radiography Application and an ECC Application to the Student Services Department by March 1 to be considered for fall admission. Subsequent dates for acceptance of applications are established if space becomes available prior to fall admission.
  2. Applicants must submit official transcripts of high school graduation or equivalency and all post-secondary course work. (Currently enrolled high school students submit a partial transcript at time of application. A final transcript is submitted at the time of graduation.)
  3. Students must complete requirements for ENG 090/095 and RED 090/095 or an equivalent course with a C or better or achieve a placement score of 80 for Reading and 86 for Writing on the Accuplacer.
  4. Students must complete requirements for Math 060 and Math 070 or an equivalent course with a C or better or achieve a placement score of 55 on the Numerical Accuplacer and a 55 on the Elementary Algebra Accuplacer.

Step II Permission to Take the Hobet
Applicants must achieve minimum composite and reading scores on the Hobet. Minimum scores are set by the program each year and are based on the national average for Health Occupation students. Applicants may be allowed to test a second time after a 30-day waiting period if available slots are not filled after the first test. The highest score is counted towards admission. Test scores are valid for two years. Students are required to pay $25.00 for each testing session after the first test.

Step III Conditional Acceptance

  1. Applicants must have at least a 2.0 GPA in required Radiography curriculum course work. Applicants with the highest total points in the following categories are considered for conditional acceptance:
    1. Hobet composite percentage score
    2. GPA on a minimum of 12 hours in required Radiography curriculum course work
    3. Required biology courses completed
    4. Health-related degrees and/or current certifications (Must submit proof by March 1)
    5. Health-related employment (Must submit letter from employer)
    6. High school Health Occupations course with an A grade
  2. Letters of conditional acceptance with enclosed medical forms are mailed to selected students. The number of students selected for conditional acceptance depends on clinical space available. Applicants who are not selected on the first round are placed on an alternate list. Students will continue to be selected from the alternate list until the program is filled.

Step IV Acceptance

  1. All students must attend the mandatory orientation session with ECC Radiography faculty.
  2. Students must submit a completed medical form. The physical exam section of the form must be dated within a time frame of six months prior to Fall Semester enrollment.
  3. Students must submit evidence of current (one-year) CPR certification for health care providers.
  4. Letters of acceptance are mailed to students.
  5. Students must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA in Radiography curriculum course work prior to admission.

Competitive Readmission Policy

The following applies to students who receive an unsuccessful grade in a Radiography program course (RAD prefix), or who voluntarily withdraw from the program:

  1. Unsuccessful grades are defined as a D or F. Students may not progress to the next semester after receiving a D or F in a RAD course. The course must be repeated before proceeding to the next higher course. RAD courses may be repeated only once.
  2. Radiography courses are offered once annually. Students who desire readmission after receiving an unsuccessful grade during the first semester must apply for readmission to the Radiography program the following fall. Students who desire readmission after receiving an unsuccessful grade after the first semester must demonstrate proficiency in first semester clinical procedures.
  3. Readmission is not guaranteed and is dependent upon space available.
  4. Students desiring readmission must meet with the Radiology Program Coordinator for specific admission criteria.

Competitive Transfer Policy

The following transfer policy applies to students who wish to transfer from another Radiography program:
Admission of transfer students is dependent upon space available and demonstration of proficiency in a variety of clinical procedures. The student is required to meet with the Radiography Program Coordinator for specific admission criteria.
