As one provision of the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement, students who complete the A.A., A.F.A., A.G.E., or A.S. degree requirements at any community college will be able to transfer to constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina with junior status and will be considered to have fulfilled the institution-wide, lower division, general education requirements of the receiving institution. Courses are approved for transfer through the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement. Community college graduates who have earned 64 semester hours of academic credit in approved college transfer courses with a grade of “C” or better in each course and an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale will receive at least 64 semester hours of academic credit upon admission to a university. Courses may also transfer through bilateral agreements between institutions. Courses offered through bilateral agreements may not transfer to all receiving institutions. Edgecombe Community College offers these degrees that transfer through the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement:
Other provisions of the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement address the transfer of general education core courses for non-graduates and transfer agreements for major or professional specialties. Transfer Agreements with Private 4-Year Colleges and Universities In addition to the CAA, Edgecombe Community College has specific program and course transfer agreements with many colleges and universities in North Carolina. These agreements list programs and courses which are accepted for transfer. Check with your advisor or student services if you would like more information. Writing Intensive Requirements Writing intensive courses are designed by faculty to encourage writing across the curriculum and give students practice in extensive writing activities to enhance their communication skills. The courses may focus on academic writing used in upper-level college courses, professional writing used in career settings, and write-to-learn activities to improve the student’s mastery of material. Each area has specific criteria for instructors to follow regarding the types and amounts of writing. Depending on the format, writing intensive courses can require 20 to 50 pages of writing.
