Our first graduating class in 1969 had fewer than 30 members. In August 2006, 243 students received degrees and diplomas during commencement exercises. An additional 116 students received the high school diploma equivalency through our General Education Development program. Today, our student body comprises more than 2,400 degree-seeking individuals as well as thousands more who enroll in continuing education classes. We are proud to serve roughly 9,500 students each year. What has distinguished Edgecombe Community College from the beginning is our uncompromising commitment to students. Faculty and staff are dedicated to the young men and women and adult learners who fill our classrooms. We pledge to make every effort to make your ECC experience positive, meaningful, and pertinent to your objectives. Our college serves residents in many ways. If you are interested in preparing for a rewarding career, we have 61 curriculum programs resulting in two-year degrees, one-year diplomas, or certificates. If you would like to get started on a four-year degree, our growing College Transfer program enables you to take courses that parallel those required during the first two years of study at four-year colleges or universities. Perhaps you are interested in taking classes to enhance your job skills or provide personal enrichment. Through the Continuing Education division, we offer about 600 continuing education classes annually. We also offer customized training to local business and industry through our Business and Industry division. We make every effort to tailor our programs and classes to meet students’ needs. I joined Edgecombe Community College as its president in November 2004. In many ways, I am still learning about this vital institution, and I will continue to grow as a member of the college community right beside you. Just as I have become very proud to serve this college, I hope you will be proud to call Edgecombe Community College your educational home. Dr.
Deborah L. Lamm
